Social media can take over our daily lives without even asking for permission! Why is it that when we go into social media for a quick 5 minutes, but 2 hours later we find ourselves still scrolling mindlessly??
Well, thatâs because social media is never a quick fix!
So, here are the 5 things that happened to me after I quit social media.
1. I became the most productive version of myself.
This one can seem unimportant but so crucial in todayâs world. In the world that is filled with social media entertainment that causes us to live a robotic lifestyle. We always tend to think that weâre doing so much, but little is getting accomplished. Why? Because we just never have enough time on our hands.
Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, yet, some of us are succeeding and some are stagnant. Some are moving along with their dreams, and some are still dreaming.
I was the person, running around screaming, âI donât have time to do ANYTHING,â in my life. I had tons of dreams and goals, but they were not being accomplished.
But, when I got rid of social media, I moved into another world. A world that was filled with thoughtful days and productive hours. A world that was engaged in mindfulness and finally accomplishing that darn to-do list! I started to declutter my house and be proactive with my health. I started to align my days right according to my goals. When I started to knock those goals out, that is when I truely felt accomplished in life.
Because I was constantly inundated with the social media feeds, I was never present in my conversations with my family or friends. I had to ALWAYS sneak in a few minutes here and there during my conversations with family/friends to see âwhatâs newâ on my feed. That feeling kept me coming back every hour of the day.
My relationships were not up to par because I was not present in my conversations. I was so hooked to my social media, to the point where I was oblivious to the deep conversations that my family/friends were trying to have with me. I was honestly missing out on the real life conversations, rather than missing out on the ânew feeds.â
3. Obsession was kicked out the door
The obsession of sifting through and looking through the curated lives on social media. The lives I was following, but not following my own life. The lives I was looking at every single day, was burying me with self doubt and envy. I can probably write a whole book on how envious we all become when sifting through social media feeds.
That obsession grew stronger and stronger, like an addict becoming hooked to their drugs. I learned that I was deteriorating my lifestyle by being on social media and it wasnât healthy for me.
4. Paid off debt
Why is it that we can easily go from social media to add to cart and checkout within minutes? Every single time I was on social media I felt the need to purchase something new. I would even drive myself to the stores, thinking I needed to get that next kitchen gadget â only because I saw it on social media. To then realizing that it was a waste and never use it. The images on social media feeds were feeding my brain and feeding my soul to have that urge to buy and buy some more!
When I got rid of social media, I didnât have anything to buy anymore! So simple and true. Instead, I realized that I needed to pay off my debt and slowly but surely I started piling my money towards that debt. I did become debt free and do think that itâs truly because I became focused, productive and living life without the constant distraction that social media was giving me.
5. The need to post disappeared
It felt like everything I did throughout my days, should be snapped and posted. I felt I was always curating my mind for some thought provoking posts with mind blown hashtags. I had to include my social media world with me on my travel trips and anytime I was doing something âcool.â I had to let everyone know that I was #roadtrippin or #gymtime, or that I was about to eat some #delish food! It was a constant interaction and daily posts were out of control. It was my daily habit and I new I had to stop.
After I got social media out of my life, I was a free bird. OMG! I didnât have to tell the world that I was going #onawalk to the river! I didnât have to tell the world that I went on an amazing hiking trip, and I didnât know what that would be like.
I didnât know what I was going to do with myself. Turning a habit into something positive is exactly what came about this experience. Now, instead of thinking of hashtags and posts, I embrace the natural beauty all around me without including the social media world. Let me tell you something, I started to notice things around me that I never have seen before. Every time I go walking to the river (down the street from my house) I always see something new and beautiful. That is what sparks joy in my soul. That is what I look forward to when I get to do something âcool.â
Start living a life of abundance and a thoughtful life. Stop scrolling through your feeds and allow me to guide you to becoming the best you can offer this world.
You have so much potential and so much to offer. You are bigger and better than that social media you are on.
