Yes, I was called the weird one that didnât know any of the latest shows on TV in every conversation I can remember.
I grew up with parents that didnât want to have a TV in our house our entire life. I think we borrowed a TV for a good week, and it was quickly returned to itsâ owners.
What in the world did we do, as kids?
On rainy days (or when we were just bored) we found ways to interact with each other (3 kids in the family), we built huge forts in the living room, we played the piano, the violin, we did arts and crafts, and always found things to do around the house. During sunny days, we played outside in the garden, played in the park, went to neighbors house, and did loads of homework throughout the school year.
What did that teach me growing up?
I was always the weird one that didnât know a single current show. I didnât know any of the new and upcoming Disney movies and their characters. I was the outcast that wasnât âinâ on the conversations of the latest Saturday morning cartoons. In fact, on Saturday mornings my mom took us to Russian school. Bright and early, every Saturday morning. We came home with Russian school homework and hit the books.
To this day, I have no idea whatâs playing and whatâs going on in the world.
I also remember writing a lot of throughout my childhood years.
How did it benefit me growing up?
I realized that Iâm completely fine being an outcast. The people that knew all there is about Disney channels/movies are in a different space right now.
I realized that my parents really knew what they were engraving into our brains throughout our childhood years and that was to empower us to be creative, to be thoughtful, to be independent and to be an outcast (for good reasons!).
Do I watch TV now?
My husband and I watch maybe one movie a month (if that).
TV doesnât draw me in. None of the Netflix movies, Amazon prime movies, reality TV shows, none of that bothers me one bit. As a matter of fact, I am not in tuned with the local or world news either. Quite frankly, I donât care whatâs going on with the presidency, the local radio stations, or any of the latest gossip of Hollywood.
What I do get to do with my free time is to share my passion and desires with the world on this blog. While everyone is busy watching TV, getting in on the social media gossip, or catching up on the latest news I get to share my passions with the world on this blog.
The good news isâŚ
While you may have grabbed this post from a social media platform, I encourage you to step outside of that box and into the world of complete productivity and high expectancy of a quality life.
Social media, TV, and the news will never get you anywhere exciting in life (unless itâs your job â of course).
Donât waste another minute of your precious time. Turn off that electronic device, and get outside, enjoy the sunshine, the social life between humans (not posts), get out there and start tackling your dreams.
You are a bright person, and your voice matters. You can and have the powers to make a difference in your space today. You can go back to school and get another career or a second career if you wanted to. You can start a new business if you wanted to.
