Often times I hear that we donât have enough time in the day to finish everything we set our minds to do. Mothers run to-do lists in the shower, but the minute they get out itâs thrown out the window. That to-do list keeps growing, laundry is piled up, spouse is left behind, and thereâs not a single minute left in the day for âme time.â Mothers get in a habit of running on survival mode and thriving is not the light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, the only thing that we see at the end of the tunnel is diapers and toys.
Did I say thrive? Wait. What is that?
You might be saying,
- Dreams have been created in that same shower and broken the minute the kids needed something.
- I canât remember the last time I gave myself a manicure!
- I canât remember the last time I got a massage, let alone thrive.
- World War III is active at my house, and there ainât nothing thriving on my end!
Even though youâre cleaning the kitchen all the time, itâs always messy.
Thereâs ALWAYS something to do around the house, and with the kids but you also want to do so much more for yourself. Self improvement has been delayed and you canât remember the last time you opened up a book to read for a little quiet time.
Having kids is an absolute blessing and a miracle. They come with joys and sometimes with pains. But you canât let your dreams become dead in the water just because your house is a mess.
I want to share some of the the success stories of two mothers and exemplify their careers to inspire you to get yours on track.
Full time mom & entrepreneurs
Lisa Nichols – motivational speaker
Lisa Nichols only had $20 to her name when she started to fund her dream. Raising a child as a single mother was one thing on her plate, but getting out of rock bottom was her passion and desire.
She made a promise to her baby son that she will never have to wrap her son in a towel because she ran out of diapers (and money) ever again.
Lisa went on to fund her dream by going to seminars on public speaking and motivational talks. She went to a conference over 20 times so she can understand every single aspect of the conference. She was putting money away for several years in her bank, for a dream business that she didn’t know what it was going to be. She didnât see the big picture and didnât know how it will all come to fruition.
She is now a multi-millionaire traveling the world and doing motivational talks. Her son is a professional chef and is also an entrepreneur. She was able to get her son through school, take care of her house and get out of rock bottom to fund her dream passion.
Suzy Batiz â founder of Poo~Pourri
Suzy was married, bankrupt and divorced by the age of 20. Homeless with two kids she felt hopeless and had no vision. At 38 years old and three kids later, she was bankrupt once again. She was let down, devastated and never wanted to get back up.
After taking a two year sabbatical she told herself that she would never start any more risks. Then an idea was born that she couldnât run away from. This would be her 13th business. She was fired up and yet again pulled herself together to teach herself everything she needs to know to bring that idea to this world. Now that small idea is a $300 million dollar company that dissolves your poop smell with a tiny bottle.
She is a self-taught entrepreneur who never gave up on her passion and didnât allow two bankruptcies to get in the way of making a new dream. She figured everything out on her own and never looked down. One of her greatest strengths is to be âobsessed.â She was able to manage her household of three kids, her spouse and now an empire.
The intriguing fact about Suzy is that she attended Arkansas State University, but never graduated.
The similarities
These two women didnât have money thrown at them or inherited any money to get them started with a business idea.
They wrote down goals, they moved swiftly towards their passion and never looked back.
They were obsessed to push as hard as they can to get to the ultimate destination. A destination that mightâve been unknown at the very beginning, but it all came through after all that dedication.
These two women were self-inspiring. They didnât look at anyone else for ideas, and they didnât let anyone bring them down.
Do you think these women sifted through their social media and were actively engaged on a daily basis?
Absolutely not.
These women woke up early, before their kids, and were up late nights while their kids were asleep. They worked their booties off and didnât care about their social lives. These women took care of their kids, loved ones and took care of their dreams.
The dreams that live in so many of us and are waiting for us to ignite them.
I bet you anything that you have a dream inside of that mom heart of yours. I bet that the one thing thatâs been holding you back is lack of time.
But let me ask you something, how long did you spend on social media this morning? Did you take time to write down your goals for the day, or did you mindlessly sift through social media for a good chunk of time?
What are you working on when the kids are asleep? Do you sit down to relax and go through your social media feeds?
What they donât do
Do you go through your days thinking of Instagram/Facebook ready photos to catch, rather than imagining your life doing that side hustle?
One biggest thing that is holding you back is: social media.
Itâs the BIGGEST time killer and itâs slowly killing your dreams as well. I know you have some amazing passions and ideas burning on the inside. Is it something to do with kids?
Is it something to do with mothers, or something to do with women? Will you be solving a poop smell problem in this world, or will it be something completely different that will get everyone blown away?
Next time you think of picking up your phone to check in your feeds, think about these two mothers that are actively working on their dreams.
I say, retire from that volunteer job of sifting through social media.
Donât allow it to stop you from launching your dream side hustle and start thriving. Start making actions today and decide that you will not be giving away your free time to social media. Decide that you are the result of your choices and actions and with that youâll be the best you can be without the distractions of social media.
