There are lots of misconceptions about being a minimalist and the act of stocking up. I truly believe that there is a lot of waste going on in the world and the more we all become minimalists the better it is for our environment, our health and mental state of being.
There are a few tips that I would like to share about my minimalist journey and the things I only stock up on.
The key to stocking up is to remember to buy only the items that you will use before they expire. You canāt just stock up on frozen items, shove them in your freezer and forget all about them.
- The obvious. Toilet paper and paper towels.
COVID-19 happened.. and we all know what went down in the stores.
- Greeting cards
I buy packs of greetings cards from the Dollar Tree store or Target. These greeting cards are versatile, you can use them for absolutely any occasion. So instead of buying $4-$9 per card, it costs me $1 per card (sometimes less)!
They are super cute and they can be gender neutral. They are empty on the inside which allows for any beautiful words to be written to fit any special occasion!
- Lotion
It is extremely HARD to find lotion that has ABSOLUTELY no chemicals in it and is lightweight and has no “grease” sensation. There are a lot of lotion products out there that are considered ānaturalā and āorganicā but if you look on the back ofthe bottles, and skim through the ingredients you will see a bunch of -oxide ingredients. Those are all harmful toxic chemicals and slowly deteriorates our beautiful skin.
So ā I found this amazing, and moisterizing lotion from Calia (not an affiliate). Itās made from organic ingredients and completely natural. There are no hidden ingredients that will creep up on you.
The reason why I stock up on it becasue it’s coming from Canada, and I’m in California. I have to pay $9 for shipping and an “international service fee” every purchase I make. So it just makes sense to buy 4 bottles at a time, pay the shipping and the internationsl service fee one time. They have amazing shampoos too! This company is soooo amazing.
- Loose leaf tea
I drink loose leaf tea more than I drink water in the day! I donāt know why but, I find that loose leaf teas pack in a bunch of antioxidants, anti-aging, anti-everything in these dried loose leaf herbs. I buy a lot of mine through Mountain Rose Herbs (not an affiliate) and they are absolutely amazing. They ensure that their products are organic, non-GMO and sometimes right from the forest!
Trust me, the loose leaf teas go by soooo fast in our house!
- Coconut Oil
We get a huge tub of coconut oil from Costco because my husband loves to cook. He uses coconut oil in practically all his cooking and it goes on our skin. So it goes by really fast in our house!
- Groceries.
I am not giving you permission to buy boxes of pasta, and pounds of ice cream! We go to the farmerās markets on the weekends and stock up on huge amounts of tomatoes, cucumbers and other fruit. During the week, we juice and make loads of fresh salads. By the end of the week we are all out!
Donāt go off and stock up on your favorite chocolates, ice creams and frozen foods just because you get a bulk discount. You will forget all about them and it will expire.
I hope you enjoyed my tips on how to stock up intentionally!
