The last several times I met new people we had several things in common and they decided to connect with me in the future. I love meeting new people and love sharing experiences where I can learn from others.
But.. why is it that people are trying to connect with me over a social media platform?
What happened with getting together over coffee/tea and chat?
Is getting someone’s phone number taboo? Is getting together to catch up, mingle, reminisce, and learn from each other now considered old school?
Social media has distorted the way human beings are “connecting.”
Social media’s driving force is to get as many people to “connect” with one another, but the ultimate drive that keeps human beings flourish is through human to human interaction. Not the post to post interaction.
Will we see a world that will no longer be exchanging phone numbers, but rather exchanging social media profiles instead?
Let’s get connected with real life humans instead of through posts and likes. It is a decision anyone can make.
Think about the impact you are making with every conversation you have.
Now..think about the impact social media has made on your life. Does it include all the hearts you tapped on posts, and the awesome hashtags you pondered on?
How would you have a relationship with the new person you met, if all you were doing is interacting with their posts?
